The UK Gambling Commission analysed anonymised open-banking transactions to examine how consumers in Great Britain interact with unlicensed operators. The study found that illegal gambling activity frequently coexisted with use of licensed gambling services.
An analysis of anonymised bank-account data found 157.2 million transactions, including 4.8 million involving licensed non-lottery gambling operators. The findings show how open banking data can help regulators examine payment flows across licensed and unlicensed gambling markets.
